Simon Monk is a painter that lives and works in Southend on Sea.
His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the USA, Europe and the UK.
Originally from Southend, he studied a foundation at Southend college, pursued his Fine Art degree at Camberwell, before becoming an art history lecturer back at Southend in the 1990s. These days he resides in his studio in Southend where he is busy with commissions from all over the world.
A friend of mine, asked if Id like to join her for at his studio for a workshop, so I went along.
The workshop; Studio Thursdays, was very enlightening. We discussed amongst other things; using grisaille, imprimatur, under painting, direct and indirect painting and we were given tasks to complete over the course of the week.
Although very different to my own style of painting, I’ve decided to continue as a regular and embrace the challenge to push myself out of my comfort zone. As I’m considering painting for my Studio Practice, I feel this will be good experience to perhaps enable me to realize my painting potential. Watch this space…
