During the course of the summer I have visited several exhibitions to inform the final Art & Design Contexts module, these include;
Several exhibitions in Malaga, inspired by my interest in European art, specifically 20th Century European Art and that of European painters.
Exhibitions on Figurative Art I have also developed quite a keen interest in Figurative Art, having visited ‘From Life’, at the Royal Academy towards the end of the last academic year, I have since been to see ‘All Too Human’, at Tate Britain – focusing on Figurative work in the 20th Century.
20th Century Art ‘Aftermath – Art in the Wake of World War One’, also at Tate Britain, was also a very good exhibition. I was particularly drawn to the illustrative work of Henry Tonks and Otto Dix who produced illustrations of War veterans and their plight with disfigurement. Having always been interested in so called degenerate art, a term used by the Nazi’s prior to World War Two, I have also previously considered focusing on this period for the essay.
Maybe there is a link that can be found here? I very much enjoyed the research I undertook on Jenny Saville and the link with Identity, when completing the final Essay in Yr2. Perhaps I can combine the idea of Figurative art, Identity and disfigurement?
I have also continued the practice of compiling a visits book – a sketchbook of information on each exhibition I have visited as a quick reference for future use. Images from each of exhibitions can be viewed on my Flickr feed; https://www.flickr.com/photos/victoriaburch/
