The place where the eggs are kept

In remembering the anniversary of my mother’s death nearly twenty years ago, I remember a conversation we shared, shortly before her diagnosis with ovarian cancer. My mother being into alternative approaches to healing, had meditated on her symptoms -her meditation revealed an egg box.

On receiving her diagnosis, we remembered the meditation, it was of course all about the place where the eggs are kept. She had also under gone a course of HRT two years previously, which as time had revealed had acted as a sticking plaster and covered the symptoms.

In thinking about making work involving casting – I’ve been considering the possibilities of casting an egg box. This, as well as being a representation of the place where the eggs are kept, is also symbolic to me about the menopause.

Pictured above are the results from a session in the work shop with Steve, using the vacuum former, my intention was to make a mould which I would use to cast plaster – the results are somewhat dilapidated due to the egg box not being able to resist the pressure of the vacuum, but also quite interesting. I shall continue to experiment.
